Where to book in Stellenbosch
Learner’s and driver’s licence tests are booked through the Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) that serves Stellenbosch, run by the Western Cape Government traffic department. Depending on current arrangements, you book either in person at the centre or through the Western Cape online booking channel.

What to bring
- Your South African ID, plus a certified copy
- Proof of residential address
- The booking fee (confirm the current amount)
- Passport-style photographs, if required by the centre
- Your glasses or contact lenses, if you wear them — an eye test is done at the centre or by an optometrist
What the learner’s test covers
The learner’s licence test is computerised and based on the K53 system. It has three sections, and you must pass each one:
- Road signs — recognising and understanding regulatory, warning, information and other signs.
- Rules of the road — speed limits, following distance, right of way, parking, AARTO and more.
- Vehicle controls — the controls of the vehicle and how they are used.
